3.
Undergraduate students shall have a grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher.

4.
A high-school senior may apply on the basis that he or she will receive the award after the completion of the first college semester with a GPA of 2.3 or higher.

5.
An applicant can be a Connecticut resident attending a college outside of Connecticut.

6.
An applicant may be an employee of a company which has a CPES member, or may be a relative of a CPES member. The scholarship committee will review applications and make awards on a “name-blind” basis.

7.
Application may be made on a form available through CPES. Copies may be obtained through the CPES website ( http://www.ctpower.org/ ) or by contacting CPES at: PO Box 231492, Hartford, CT 06123-1492, or by calling 203.265.0823.

8.
To publicize the scholarship competition, CPES will:  Announce the scholarship on the CBIA and the Clean Energy Fund web sites; write to all Connecticut engineering colleges and universities inviting them to nominate students; email Connecticut high school guidance counselors inviting them to nominate students; send press releases to Connecticut “papers-of-record.”

9.  A paper of 200 words or fewer is required along with the application, explaining the student’s interest in the field of power and energy. Part of the paper may cover the student’s need for the scholarship funding.

10.
The 2009 scholarship application was due by May 11, 2009.

11.
The winner will be selected by the scholarship committee and confirmed by the CPES board of directors. The approved decision is final. The winner of the competition will be notified by email and phone shortly after May 30. Board Member(s) will abstain from voting if the nominee is a relative.

12.  The selection will consider a student’s academic standing at the end of the school semester immediately preceding the first day of the competition.

13.  CPES is not responsible for lost, late, mishandled, or misdirected mail.

14.  Acceptance of the scholarship constitutes permission to use the winner’s name and excerpts from the winning entry in announcements in the media and in CPES publications.  We also request that winners attend a public recognition event at one of our dinner meetings, date to be announced.
